Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is a relatively new technology in Australia that has been used in Europe where it originated from, for more than 40 years. This innovative construction material provides many benefits over traditional building materials and allows for a superior finished product. Hyperbuild is very proud to be one of the first builders in Australia to be using predominantly CLT in their construction projects. Cross Laminated Timber is manufactured using layers of timber glued together with the grain of the timber alternating at 90-degree angles for each additional layer. The exterior layers’ grains run lengthways generating optimum strength and thus improving its structural properties. Whilst CLT is an engineered wood product it has similar characteristics to that of pre-cast concrete panels possessing great strength in tension and compression but only weighing a small fraction of an equivalent pre-cast concrete panel.
